Revealing the Top 3 US Cities with the Highest Crime Rates

Many people were shocked by the news that New York City, a city often linked to urban crime, did not make the infamous list of the most dangerous cities in the United States, according to a new survey.

Even in the absence of the Big Apple, disturbing NYPD data point to a dangerous trend in New York City. Compared to the previous year, the city had a remarkable 15% spike in grand larceny occurrences, a 5% increase in stabbings, and a 6.3% jump in assaults. There was one positive spot, though: the city’s murder rate dropped by around 11.9%.

Recognizing the impact of crime rates on city selection, Norada Real Estate Investments carried out a thorough research, taking into account variables including property crime, gang violence, assaults, and homicides. The results presented a dismal picture of American cities.

Unexpectedly, Detroit, Michigan, topped the list of the most hazardous cities in the United States, followed by three Upstate New York communities.

The Motor City saw high rates of homicide, robbery, and violent assaults, which were mostly caused by gang activities and constituted a threat to public safety.

The fact that Baltimore, MD; St. Louis, MO; Oakland, CA; and Memphis, TN joined Detroit in the top five adds to how prevalent the issue is.

Detroit received the coveted difference of being the second most dangerous city in the US, with 2,057 murders per 100,000 residents—a higher rate than the national average.

Many people were shocked by the news that New York City, a city often linked to urban crime, did not make the infamous list of the most dangerous cities in the United States, according to a new survey.

Detroit’s economic woes resulted in a startling increase in the annual unemployment rate for the impoverished, which in turn caused crime and damage rates to almost double the national average across the board.

Though it did not rank in the top 10, New York City was surprisingly well-represented in the regionalized statistics for the Northeast, as Buffalo came in second overall and Rochester and Syracuse were also included.

Utica, Rome, and Herkimer presented different difficulties for anyone looking for localized crime statistics. Rome’s crime rate was 25% lower than the national average, Herkimer’s was 15% higher, and Utica’s was 71% higher.

The information came from the FBI’s 2022 standard crime reports, which included more than 18,000 locations throughout the US.

On a positive note, those seeking safety within New York State can look to Kirkland, identified as the safest city by AdvisorSmith.

The survey found that Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri; and Memphis, Tennessee were the top three most hazardous cities in the United States.

Every city had different problems, and their high crime rates were a result of things like unstable economies, inadequate schools, and housing shortages.
